The Full Story

I'm Robert Borman. I write under two pen names Rob't Borman (for my editorial, aging and misc pieces) and my children's works under G-Pa (the affectionate name l'm called by my grandchildren).

Upon retirement as a women's clothing manufacturer, I made the decision to improve my lifelong passions of drawing, songwriting and guitar playing. Discouraged by a mother who was very concerned about one's ability to earn a living in the art world, I gave in and earned a business degree in college. Never having taken art classes, I never stopped doodling. I actually had a few opportunities to enter the cartoon world, but recognized Mom was right, the compensation wouldn't garner the lifestyle I was seeking and at the young age of 22, I lacked the confidence to take the risk and made the decision to wait until "one day."

As an 8-year-old kid, I was fascinated by the cartoons and illustrations in Mad Magazine, particularly Mort Drucker, my illustrating idol. I always relished sick days from school so I could practice drawing using Mad Magazine as my teacher.

I moved through the traditional (and many non-traditional) life cycles of high school, college, career, marriage, children, grandchildren and retirement never forsaking doodling time.

7 years ago, a political event dragged my hand to paper to create a cartoon which led to a nonstop flood of ideas and more editorial pieces. I received a wave of positive responses and was encouraged to post on social media, which was and remains a foreign country to me. It took 3 years to post, but in the past 4 years with modest recognition I have posted over 1,700 daily pieces about politics, aging and assorted thoughts. I’ve attracted more than 3,500 followers with a daily average viewing of 7,800. Thus far, there have been more than 4.7M peeks at my doodled pieces. I’ve written and illustrated 8 children’s books, 5 bathroom humor books, 1 elderly (50 and overish) funny book and enough material for 3 future volumes. Lastly, a greeting card line filled with some sassy comments about core occasions.

I welcome you to enjoy my thoughts, have a chuckle or two at the irony of our world.

I also welcome and appreciate all your comments.

Cheers,

Rob’t Borman
